The world has been at war.
Will my earth be green again?

A NEW CBSE SCHOOL IN JHARGRAM

Jhargram, is a tribal area. Every morning more than 20 buses full of children go to neighbouring towns and cities for good education. PUKAAR has partnered with The Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jhargram, to raise funds for a CBSE school in Jhargram. In the pictures above The Inner Wheel Club of Central Calcutta is inaugurating a block of classrooms that they have funded. PUKAAR thanks them for this generosity.

8 city slickers teach 61 rural, tribal students

ONGOING JUNE 2025 -

Eight humane and generous students of Calcutta have signed up with PUKAAR to teach Spoken English to 61tribal students of Jhargram.

Jhargram is a rather undeveloped tribal area given that it has witnessed Maoist activities for decades.

Its important for the urban youth to reach out to their rural counterparts, for society that develops together stays together!

Wish us all the best please!

NOTEBOOKS for tribal, village children !

NOTEBOOKS
Every village child's dream.
Mostly every village parent's despair, because it's thought of as an unnecessary expense.
PUKAAR is happiest when it gives away notebooks. As we did in all these villages in tribal Jhargram.

DEVASTATING LANDSLIDE in Mirik, Darjeeling
DISPLACEMENT, MIGRATION & WOMEN
Women bear the brunt of tragedy. So it was in Mirik and its surrounding areas. Women, stunned into silence at relief camps, turn stoic. And we at PUKAAR tried just a wee bit to hold their hands and let them know that no one ought to be alone in trying times, and that all of it passes, too.

MIRIK HIGH SCHOOL
Set up 125 years ago in colonial times, this once prestigious school is now a ramshackle, rundown government school.Substance abuse abounds in the hills, and why not? With no opportunities and no future in the hill, even the best amongst the youth can be easily preyed upon. PUKAAR took sweaters, notebooks, stationary, backpacks and most of all good luck and wishes for the youth of the hills!

PHUGURI HIGH SCHOOL
Yet another government school, yet again on the margins, yet again full of smiles. What could PUKAAR offer but for hope and an assurance that if and when any child would need help, we would be there. the sweaters, notebooks, bags etc did help immensely though.

THURBO High School: Located inside the famed Thurbo Tea Estate.
Schools in the hills are naturally small in size and scattered across the terrain. Sometimes there isn't even space for the entire school to assemble together for morning prayer. While the entire school was gifted bags, sweaters, notebooks, napkins and more, each class came down by turn to be with us! May their future be bright indeed.

At the tiny little THURBO PRATHMIK PAATHSHALA, that too pahilo shakha!!!

Imagine our surprise when we spotted an orphanage housing about 60 odd kids in Mirik town! Our queries revealed that it is being run by a Society headquartered in Jhargram. We were delighted, as were the kids!

CHENGA BASTI : In the foothills of the mountains. The basti kids were all smiles , as were we at PUKAAR!

A tiny MARIGOLD SCHOOL: The colorful sweaters were bright and beautiful, but the smiles outdid them all :)

The JAWAHAR NAVODAY VIDYALAYA: Yet another impoverished school. Yet another sea of smiles.

40 computers for moffusil girls' education

PUKAAR, and the woman behind PUKAAR have both been associated with the Ramkrishna Mission and the Ramakrishna Sarada Mission for the past many decades. In yet another opportunity to serve the marginalised girls of Konnagar, Rishra, PUKAAR was requested to arrange for 40 odd computers which, not surprisingly, were happily thrown into our lap by the Universe :) The first batch of girls have passed out with flying colours and have since moved forward with baby steps towards their first jobs in life!!

On the other hand, a full years supply of sanitary napkins was gifted to the tribal girls of Eklavya Model Residential School, Jhargram!!
