Jan 21, Calcutta Social Project - A medical camp for Slum Children
Calcutta Social Project is almost half a century old in their service to the slum children of South Calcutta.
A Team of doctors diagnosed the medical issues of the 120 odd kids and a team of nurses provided medicines.

A school in rural Bengal where the poverty of the girl students was visible in their lack of sweaters and footwear in the midst of a January winter.
However, miracles abound.
As soon as a kind soul saw our pictorial report, 40 brand new sweaters were sent to the kids immediately.
Just look at the beaming kids :)
Mar 25, Three Calcutta Schools take Books Full of Almirahs to Two Rural Schools in Purba Medinipur, West Bengal
Seeing a picture of Bhagat Singh, painted by village girls on the walls of their rural village in West Bengal, is nothing short of a minor miracle, in times of regional and parochial inflammations the world over. This is hope.
Hope is also when schoolgirls from three of Calcutta's elite schools go all the way to rural vernacular schools hours away from the Calcutta, bearing books full of almirahs and hearts full of smiles.

The Easter weekend, Apr 7. Vill Radhanagar, Sub Division Khatra,
P.S. Ranibandh, Distt Bankura
Radhanagar is a tribal village in the interior jungles of West Bengal. it has seventy five odd families. Give its isolated location, there is no scope of employment for the women of this village. The men are involved with agricultural and other kinds of labour.
Much thanks to the dedication of Shri Vaibhav Tiwari, IPS, and Suprintendent of Police of Bankura district, in which this village is located, PUKAAR reached the women and children on the Easter weekend of 2023.
To say the least, these women, born, bred and living in abject poverty, with very little hope around, nevertheless, not just put on their best smile, but also welcomed us like family members.
Parwati Capitals, led by its humane Managing Director, Pawan Bagri ji, insisted that their donation be used to fund this outreach programme. Thank you.
The Easter weekend continues, Apr 8. Vill Sarenga, Sub Division Khatra,
P.S. Sarenga, Distt Bankura
Sarenga was our next stop that weekend. Since we'd travelled all the way from Calcutta, it made sense to cover as many villages as possible. India truly lives in its villages.
And oh yes! my wonderful companion on this trip was Ms Minnie Sengupta, former principal, Birla High School.

In the heart of the vegetable and potato growing belt of South Bengal, it was sweltering, hot and suffocating for the two Pukaar members; but it was a
clear reminder to us of the trying conditions in which the villages in India live in. so, so many needy women and children. Big thank you to
Kamnashish Sen, IPS, SP, Purba Bardhaman who led from the front.
From sweaters for the winters to sarees for the women, notebooks, pens, biscuits, health drinks and more, it was a visit to remember.
P.S: We stayed in the campus of a cold storage that stored potatoes.

In the short winters of Bengal, some mild and others sharp, the rural poor would rather not invest in a sweater for their kids given that the child will outgrow it sooner than later.
PUKAAR stepped in on Children's Day 2023. It was fantastic deal. With mere sweaters, chocos and notebooks, we bought infinitely precious smilse!

Sometime in Nov 2023 a young bright MBBS student approached PUKAAR: Geriatric mental health survey, Dhapa, Kolkata
Souvik Dutta approached PUKAAR after a chance meeting at a competitive debate which he had just aced. He said he wanted to do a survey of geriatric mental health at the Kolkata Municipal Corporation's Urban Health Centers at Dhapa, which is a rather poor and decrepit area on the fringes of the East Calcutta
Wetlands. With a team of 10 juniors the survey was conducted. There's full hope that the survey shall lead to more meaningful surveys in turn.
PUKAAR was glad to have arranged for transport and snacking allowance for the young team. Certificates were given out after the successful completion of the survey!

Christmas 2023: Abasberia Adarsh Vidyapith, Purba Medinipur
Nestled deep inside the tiny paved roads of Bhagabanpur in Purba Medinipur, we reached the spacious expanse of this village school, near which is a spot that Mahatma Gandhi had visited in 1925. Very, very heartening to see the well kept building in the interiors of a village. The students were smartly turned out in their government provided uniforms. PUKAAR was accompanied by Dr J.J.Dhara, Head of Orthopedics at Bangur Hospital and his lovely wife Sumana Bhattacharya, a teacher of Bengali at The Assembly of God Church, Park Street. Thank you!!
